  8. I.    INTRODUCTION

  10. Welcome to The Video Store.  The Video Store is a Point-Of-Sale (POS)
  11. system to operate any video rental store.  The program supports bar code
  12. scanners, standard printers & receipt printers, cash drawers, and modems.
  13. The following features are part of the software:

  16. * Define 0/1/2 taxes
  17. * Supports barcode scanners, cash drawers and printers
  18. * Track customers, vendors, sales personnel and inventory management

  38. II.   INSTALLATION
  39.  
  40. The Video Store requires any IBM PC compatible computer with a hard 
  41. disk drive.  Prior to installation, verify that the CONFIG.SYS file meets
  42. the following requirements:
  43.  
  44.         FILES=99
  45.         BUFFERS=20
  46.  
  47. It is also highly recommended to have EMS or XMS memory installed.  Even
  48. though the software will operate without this memory, it will operate
  49. much slower than if EMS or XMS memory is installed.

  51. Refer to your DOS manual if any of the above is unfamiliar to the user.

  53. To run the software, enter VID at the DOS prompt.
  54.

  56. The following environment variable commands are supported:
  57.  
  58.    SET VID=NETWORK        Forces the program to operate under the network
  59.                           mode.  Please note:  The program automatically
  60.                           senses the existence of a network during normal
  61.                           operation.  This feature is only needed if the
  62.                           program cannot detect the network.
  63.  
  64.    SET VID=COLOR          Forces the program to operate in color mode.
  65.  
  66.    SET VID=MONO           Forces the program to operate in monochrome mode.

  68.    SET VID=E:0            Forces EMS mode to be disabled.

  73. The environment variable commands may be combined.  For example,

  79. If your computer has EMS/XMS memory, it will attempt to operate in protected
  80. mode, otherwise it will operate in real mode.  If you wish to force the
  81. software to operate in real mode, set the following environment variable:

  91. Online Help is available from inside the program.  It may be activated by
  92. pressing ALT-H from anywhere in the program.

  97. IV.   HARDWARE SUPPORTED

  99. The following hardware is supported:

  101.    * Modem                Any modem connected to a COM port.
  102.    * Cash Drawer          Cash Drawers connected to the serial or parallel port      
  103.    * Printers              Laser, Dot Matrix, or Receipt Printers.  Must be
  104.                   connected to the parallel port.

  110. V.    OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

  112. A brief word document (MANUAL.DOC) has been included to show the basic
  113. operations of The Video Store software.

  119. VI.   REGISTERATION
  120.  
  121. The Video Store is not a free program.  You are free to evaluate the 
  122. program.  The unregistered version has some invoicing limitations.
  123. If you decide that you wish to use The Video Store in your place of business,
  124. please order a copy of the software.  Once ordered, a registered version of
  125. The Video Store will be sent to you.  You would also be entitled to unlimited
  126. free support at no extra cost.

  149. VII.  EXTERNAL MODULES
  150.  
  151. The Credit Card Store is an external module that is available to interface
  152. with The Video Store software.  This module will connect a VeriFone Credit
  153. Card terminal to The Video Store software.  When a transaction is made on
  154. the terminal, all credit card information is automatically transmitted to
  155. The Video Store software.  The price for this module is $39,95.
